LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Sarah Bonelli (Apollo, Pa./Apollo-Ridge) scored twice and
Alexa Ream (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) tied the match late, but in the end the Lock Haven University women's soccer team (2-8, 2-7 PSAC) was edged 4-3 by visiting Seton Hill (5-5-1, 4-5-1 PSAC) in a thriller.
Seton Hill went up 1-0 in the ninth minute and made it 2-0 in the 22
nd minute.
After going down 2-0, the Bald Eagles woke up and took control of the match, dominating the remainder of the second half.
LHU was rewarded in the 36
th minute when Bonelli scored a sensational goal. Bonelli ran onto a
Taylor Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) pass into the box – before tucking the ball far post under a diving Seton Hill goalkeeper.
Seton Hill made it 3-1 in the 54
th minute, but again LHU fought back.
Bonelli scored her second of the game in the 59
th minute when she ran onto a long ball into the box – split the last defender and goalie – before firing the ball into an open net.
LHU was awarded a penalty shot in the 87
th minute and Ream tucked it home to tie the match at 3-3. It was Ream's first goal of the season.
Seton Hill's Alex McIntosh however netted the game-winner in the 89
th minute.
The Bald Eagles return to action on Wednesday, October 7 at Millersville (4 p.m.).
