Bald Eagles drop non-conference match at #25 WVU

133-pounder Bobby Rehm collects 91st career victory

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team (2-5) fell to No. 25 West Virginia University (5-2), 30-3 tonight on the road in non-conference action.

Bobby Rehm (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) picked up the Bald Eagles win.

West Virginia, ranked No. 25 in this week's USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Coaches poll, marked Lock Haven's fourth nationally-ranked dual opponent of the season.

Rehm, who was coming off a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title last weekend won his 91st career match tonight, inching closer to the 100-win club.

WVU went up 4-0 after Zeke Moisey earned an 8-0 major decision over Jake Field (South Elgin, Ill./Marmion Academy) at 125. Moisey, ranked No. 13, was an NCAA finalist last season.

Rehm put the Bald Eagles on the board with a thrilling 5-1 victory over Keegan Moore at 133. Tied 1-1 with 30 seconds left in the bout, Rehm took Moore down and quickly put him on his back for two points on the way to the 5-1 win.

Tony DeAngelo's victory at 141 pounds put West Virginia up 7-3. DeAngelo used a reversal to beat Dan Neff (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) 3-1 (TB-1) in a hard-fought battle. DeAngelo's win stretched the Mountaineer lead to 7-3.

WVU posted back-to-back major decision at 149 and 157, and led 15-3 after five bouts. At 149, Zachary Moore majored Cody Wheeler (Towanda, Pa./Towanda, Pa.), 13-4 and No. 13 Dylan Cottrell majored Aaron McKinney (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) 14-3 at 157.

West Virginia extended its lead when Connor Flynn beat Cody Cordes (Edwardsville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), 8-1 at 165. WVU's Ross Reniz came from behind to beat Tyler Wood (West Chester, Pa./West Chester-Rustin) 8-7 at 174.

Bubba Scheffel edged Tristan Sponseller (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) 5-3 at 184.

Matt Moore (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) looked poised for an upset at 197, but No. 8 Jacob Smith grinded out a 4-0 victory.

Brad Emerick (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) closed the night with a battle at 285, but he came up short, 3-1 (SV-1) vs. A.J. Vizcarrondo.

Tonight, host West Virginia and Lock Haven took part in "Cradles for Cancer," and both teams sported the color pink in honor of all those who have battled, and are battling cancer. WVU head coach Sammie Henson started the event in 2014 in honor of his wife, who was battling breast cancer at the time.

The Bald Eagles return to action on Thursday, December 17 when they host Messiah (5:30 p.m.) and Bloomsburg (7 p.m.). Messiah is ranked seventh in Division III and the match with Bloomsburg marks Lock Haven's 2015-16 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) opener.
