WATERBURY, Conn. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team used a late first-half run and a strong all-around defensive effort to top Post University 68-56 tonight in non-conference action
LHU (5-7) went on a 10-0 run late in the first half and led winless Post (0-12) 36-26 at halftime.
Leading the way for Lock Haven was
Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), who had another big outing. Her 10 point, 11 rebound double-double paced the Bald Eagles today.
The McDaniel sisters combined for 21 points as
Rachael McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.) Univ.) and
Syvae McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.) Univ.) netted 11 and 10 points, respectively.
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) added eight points and
Mackenzie Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./IUP) turned in a strong outing with six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
For the game, LHU shot 38 percent from the field and the Bald Eagles were strong at the free throw stripe (65 percent).
Lock Haven scored 20 points off Post turnovers and The Haven bench provide 25 points in the victory. Twelve of LHU's 25 bench points came in the second quarter where Lock Haven took over the game after a sluggish first quarter.
The Bald Eagles defense limited Post to just six second-quarter points.
LHU returns to action on Sunday, January 3 at 2 p.m. when the Bald Eagles host Edinboro in The Haven's first action of the 2016 calendar year.
