Game Recap: Baseball |

Bald Eagles walk-off winners in game 1, shutout Huskies in game 2

Tyson Petersheim and Parker Watson power Bald Eagles to important PSAC East sweep over Bloomsburg (W, 4-2 & 2-0)

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bald Eagles called upon some extra-inning magic in game one and Parker Watson (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) shutdown the Huskies' bats in game two, as the Lock Haven University baseball team swept visiting Bloomsburg in an important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East doubleheader.

Lock Haven (6-12, 5-7 PSAC East) won game one, 4-2 in eight innings and shutout Bloomsburg (6-8, 5-5 PSAC East), 2-0 in game two.

The Bald Eagles picked up a dramatic game-one victory thanks to Tyson Petersheim's (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving LHU the walk-off win.

Watson was dealing in game two and struck out eight Huskies on the way to his first win of the season.

Game 1 Recap: W, 4-2 (8 innings)

The game-one victory was a game of firsts for LHU. Petersheim's homer was the first of his collegiate career and pitcher Tyler Carns (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) recorded his first career collegiate win on the hill.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Petersheim hit a ball that dipped over the right field fence, giving Bald Eagle head coach Jim Chester his first-ever win at home in front of the Haven faithful.

Carns entered the game in relief in the top of the eighth with one out. After walking the first batter he faced, he struck out one and recorded a groundball out on the way to the win.

Petersheim was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Ryan Koch (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and Justin Sleigh (Dubois, Pa./Dubois) both went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Game 2 Recap: W, 2-0

Watson was the story in game two, as the junior right-hand pitcher struck out eight and allowed just one walk in six innings of work. He carried a no-hitter into the fifth and ended up scattering five hits.

The Bald Eagles fired up the two-out magic and scored both runs in the bottom the third.

Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate University) singled down the left field line, which scored Koch for the 1-0 lead. In the very next at bat, Sleigh recorded a RBI-single, giving LHU the 2-0 lead.

Lock Haven's two runs came off eight hits, including two apiece from Botts and Koch.

Lock Haven returns to action tomorrow (Friday, April 3) at 1 p.m. when the Bald Eagles host East Stroudsburg in a PSAC East doubleheader.
