LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team fell to Rider University, 27-6 today in Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) action, but the Bald Eagles didn't come away empty handed as redshirt-senior
Dan Neff (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) picked up his 100
th career win.
Rider (5-6, 1-1 EWL) won 8 of 10 bouts on the day and snapped Lock Haven's (6-6, 1-1 EWL) win streak.
The Bald Eagles wins came from Neff and
Tristan Sponseller (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs).
Today's match started at 165 pounds and the Bald Eagles found themselves in an early 6-0 hole. Sponseller's 8-4 win over Michale Fagg-Daves at 184, put Lock Haven on the board.
Following Sponseller's win at 184, Rider won five straight before Neff picked up his historic victory.
Neff led 2-1 after one period and he rode out the second period. In the end, his 100
th career win came thanks to a dominating 10-3 decision over Jesse Rodgers.
Neff is the 17
th LHU wrestler to earn a spot in the Bald Eagles 100-win club.
Since returning to 149 pounds on December 17, Neff has gone 10-0. Neff was an All-American at 149 last year, but started this season at 141.
The Bald Eagles are scheduled for a pair of duals next week. LHU will head to local-rival Bucknell on Thursday, January 21 (7 p.m.) and Lock Haven is set for an EWL dual at George Mason on Friday, January 22 (7 p.m.).
