WORCESTER, Mass. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (10-8) capped the 2016 regular season in style today, downing Holy Cross (8-9) 3-2 for the Bald Eagles 10
th win of the season.
Today's win, the 10
th of the season for LHU marked Lock Haven's 28
th consecutive season with at least 10 victories. The Bald Eagles have won 10 or more games in each of their 13 seasons since returning to Division I play in 2004.
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Lock Haven and Holy Cross and LHU outshot the hosts 16-8.
The Bald Eagles got goals from three different players,
Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) recorded two assists and goalkeeper
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) finished with two saves to spark The Haven to the win.
LHU took the 1-0 lead just 5:16 into the match after Smith set up
April Stafford (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg), who tipped the ball home.
The Bald Eagles made it 2-0 in the 16
th minute as Smith was at it again – this time setting up
Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), who tucked the ball into the back of the cage.
The Stafford and George goals had LHU leading 2-0 halftime.
With the Bald Eagles leading 2-1 in the second half,
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) made it 3-1 Lock Haven and helped ice the win.
LHU finished the 2016 regular season with a 10-8 overall record.
