LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – A pair of Bald Eagle standouts continued their run of solid play, sparking a second-half push that helped the Lock Haven University women's basketball team (10-13, 7-12 PSAC) drop visiting Cheyney University (2-18, 0-17 PSAC) 71-56 in conference action.
Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) led the way for the Bald Eagles and once again put up video game numbers. She scored eight points and finished with 17 rebounds (6 off, 11 def).
Mealing's 13.1 rebounds per game are tops in the PSAC and the best average in all of NCAA Division II women's basketball.
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) also had a monster game and netted 25 points, which matched her career-high. She also had five rebounds and five assists.
Mackenzie Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./IUP) scored 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists.
Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College), the reigning PSAC East Freshman of the Week, continued her hot play and finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds.
A huge turning point in the game was the third quarter, where Lock Haven took control. LHU led 49-44 after three quarters, thanks to a dominating effort in the third.
The Bald Eagles outscored Cheyney 23-17 in the third period.
LHU carried the momentum into the fourth quarter and put things away, outscoring Cheyney, 22-12 in the final period.
Cheyney's Kyra Hines-Allen scored 11 first-half points, which helped give the Wolves a one-point halftime lead, 27-26.
Hilliard netted eight points for The Haven in the first half and Mealing grabbed eight rebounds.
Lock Haven hosts Bloomsburg University on Saturday, February 13 at 2 p.m. (Senior Day).
