First pitch awaits, softball opens season Friday

The LHU softball team opens the 2016 season this weekend with six games in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team is scheduled to open the 2016 season this weekend with six games at the 2016 Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
 
The Weekend Schedule:
Friday, February 19; 12 p.m. vs. New Haven
Friday, February 19; 2 p.m. vs. Molloy
Saturday, February 20; 10 a.m. vs. Wilmington
Saturday, February 20; 12 p.m. vs. Felician
Sunday, February 21; 10 a.m. vs. Merrimack
Sunday, February 21; 12 p.m. vs. Le Moyne
 
Bald Eagles picked 3rd in PSAC Central:
LHU was picked third in the 2016 PSAC Central Division Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Bald Eagles received one first-place vote in the poll. Bloomsburg received the other six first-places votes and was tabbed as the PSAC Central's preseason favorite. IUP checked in at No. 2. West Chester was picked first in the East and California was tabbed as the favorite in the Western Division.

Pair of All-Conference players return:
Last season, four players earned All-PSAC East honors, including returners McKenna Garlock and Rachel Mouillesseaux. Garlock was a First Team selection, while Mouillesseaux earned a not on the Second Team.
 
Garlock led LHU all last season, both offensively and defensively. She led The Haven at the plate, hitting a team-best .336 (46-for-137). She had 12 doubles and drove in 15 runs, while recording a .445 slugging-percentage. Garlock started all 42 games at first base and committed just four errors (.989 field percentage).
 
Mouillesseuax picked up a team-high eight wins. In 158 innings, she struck out 136 and recorded an ERA of 2.61. On the season, Mouillesseuax held the opposition to a .250 batting average. In five different games, she recorded eight or more strikeouts.
 
Garlock, a junior, is now a two-time All-Conference selection.
 
Paige Stuppy, also a standout LHU field hockey player was an All-Conference selection following the 2014 season.
 
Talented group of newcomers join team:
The Bald Eagles have added an extremely talented and ready-to-play group of eight freshmen. Haven fans shouldn't be surprised if they see a number of rookies in the lineup early, including pitcher Bekah Slattery and Traci Kromko, along with local-products Jessica Strouse and Bryann Hilty, both Central Mountain High School graduates.
