Women’s Basketball falls in PSAC First Round

Bald Eagles downed 71-52 at Millersville in PSAC First Round Tournament action.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team dropped its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First Round Tournament game today, 71-52 at Millersville University.

J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Mackenzie Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./IUP) paced the scoring attack with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), the league's top rebounder during the regular season finished with 20 boards today. She added eight points, three assists and two blocks in an all-around strong effort.

Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College) capped a strong rookie season with an eight-point effort.

Mealing's 20 rebounds today push her single-season school record to 343. She has 495 career rebounds, which is just outside the all-time top-10.

Millersville led 28-19 at halftime, but LHU charged in the third quarter.

The Marauders got a balanced scoring effort and shot 47 percent from the field.

Aunjel Van Brakle led Millersville with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Today's game marked the Bald Eagles second straight season where LHU qualified for the PSAC Tournament, something they hadn't done since the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons. Those playoff runs capped a brilliant stretch of LHU women's basketball in the late 80's and early 90's, which saw eight straight PSAC Tournament appearances from Lock Haven.

Today marked LHU's 10th all-time PSAC playoff appearance.

With the loss, the Bald Eagles close the season at 11-16 overall.

Millersville improved to 19-8 on the season and heads to Shippensburg for a PSAC Quarterfinal clash on Tuesday.
