CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team (11-7) got things rolling today and picked up a pair of wins in Clermont, Florida at the 2016 Spring Games, downing Minot State, 9-0 (5 innings), before dropping West Liberty, 4-1.
The Bald Eagles tagged Minot State for nine runs on eight hits.
Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI.
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./ Union Endicott) drove in a pair of runs for Lock Haven.
Freshman pitcher
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) continued her dominance and recorded her third straight shutout-victory, while stretching her scoreless-inning streak to 19. Slattery struck out six.
In the 4-1 win over West Liberty,
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) had the big bat, going 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
Her solo home run in the fourth tied the game at 1-1 and LHU rolled from there.
Mouillesseaux picked up the win in the circle and finished with six strikeouts.
Lock Haven will cap its annual Spring Break swing through Florida tomorrow (Saturday, March 12) with a 9 a.m. game vs. Charleston, followed by a game vs. Assumption at 11 a.m.
