LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –The No. 6 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (9-1, 5-1 PSAC) netted the game-winner late in the fourth overtime period, giving the Bald Eagles a thrilling win over No. 20 IUP (7-4, 5-1 PSAC), 10-9 (4OT).
With 1:25 left in the fourth overtime
Ashley Gochenaur (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) scored the game-winning goal, to give LHU the win as the Bald Eagles held off a furious second-half push from the upset-minded Crimson Hawks.
In all, Gochenaur netted three goals in the win.
Lock Haven led 7-3 at halftime and looked to be in control, but IUP netted six second-half goals and the game was tied 9-9 at the end of the regulation.
Rachel Engler (Perkiomenville, Pa./Rutgers) lead the team by scoring four goals and she had one assist on the day.
Shannon Bissnette (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) led The Haven in assists with four, three of which came on Engler goals.
Alex O'Herrick (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) netted two goals and
Karli Gilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) also added a goal.
Hayley Kilian (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley Park) dished out three assists.
Kelly Close (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) had a great day on defense, finishing with three groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Emily Gerhart (Barto, Pa./ Boyertown) also had three groundballs and two caused turnovers on the day.
Hannah Houde (Jackson, N.J./Slippery Rock Univ.) had 15 saves in the goal.
The Bald Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 6 at 4 p.m. when they travel to arch-rival West Chester.
