ERIE, Pa. - The No. 10 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (13-4, 8-4 PSAC) closed the regular season with an 11-6 loss at No. 8 Mercyhurst University (15-2, 11-1 PSAC) today.
Despite the loss, Lock Haven has secured a spot in the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament. The Bald Eagles are the No. 4 seed and will host a First Round game next Saturday, April 30 (opponent & time, TBA).
Lock Haven trailed 7-3 at halftime and the Bald Eagles did all they could to rally in the second with three more goals, but it wasn't enough.
Alex O'Herrick (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) had another big game for Lock Haven and finished with three goals, two draw controls and one caused turnover.
Rachel Engler (Perkiomenville, Pa./Rutgers) netted two goals and
Shannon Bissnette (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) finished with two assists.
The Bald Eagle defense was led by
Leah Peppelman (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and
Kelly Close (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville). Peppelman ended the day with three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Close picked up two groundballs.
Hannah Houde (Jackson, N.J./Slippery Rock Univ.) had a solid day in goal and kept LHU in the game with 12 saves.
