Game #3: Lock Haven vs. Kutztown (Wednesday, April 27) | 3 p.m. | LIVE STATS

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University softball team is set for its return trip to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament. The Bald Eagles take on Kutztown University Wednesday (April 27) at 3 p.m.

Setting the stage:
The 2016 PSAC Tournament (Championships) is set for Wednesday (April 27) through Saturday, April 30 at Veterans Park in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. The PSAC Tournament includes nine teams, including the top-three teams from each of the PSAC's three divisions (East, Central & West).

Lock Haven is the No. 2 seed out of the Central Division and will open the tournament vs. Kutztown, the No. 2 seed out of the Eastern Division.

How they got here:
The Bald Eagles closed the regular season on Sunday with a non-conference sweep of Goldey-Beacom. The sweep helped LHU cap the regular season on a four-game win streak and Lock Haven has won nine of its last 12 games.

LHU enters the PSAC Tournament at 33-15 overall and The Haven went 14-6 in PSAC Central play.

It marks the first time Lock Haven has hit the 30-win mark since winning 30 games in 2012 and the 33 wins are the most since the Bald Eagles won 36 during the 2009 regular season. LHU went on to win 51 games and the 2009 National Championship.

A quick look at Kutztown:
The Golden Bears are 29-13 overall and went 10-6 in PSAC East play. Kutztown closed the regular season with a sweep of Millersville and won four of its last six games. Savannah Nierintz has logged the majority of innings in the circle and is 16-9 with a 1.85 ERA. Sara Keeney leads KU at the plate. She is hitting .428 with 14 RBIs.

Lock Haven's ace:
LHU has been fueled all season by freshman ace Bekah Slattery, who is 19-5 with a 1.55 ERA and 155 strikeouts. Her 19 wins were tied for the most in the PSAC during the regular season. Slattery's 155 strikeouts led the PSAC during the regular season and are the fifth most in school history for a single season, behind only Kristin Erb, the greatest pitcher in NCAA Division II history.

Rachel Mouillesseaux gives the Bald Eagles another strong arm. She finished the season with 14 wins and 99 strikeouts.

Strong at the plate:
Lock Haven features a balanced attack. McKenna Garlock leads the way with a .372 average. She has 15 doubles, one away from tying the all-time single season record held by former All-American Courtney Hughes. Garlock has driven in 32 runs. Michelle Holweger is hitting .345 with 39 RBIs.

Leadoff-hitter Jessica Strouse has scored 39 runs, while Mouillesseuax also enters the PSAC Tournament hitting well (.304, 5 home runs, 20 RBIs.). Jodi Weaknecht sits just below .300 at .293, and the speedy outfielder is a threat to score any time she gets on base. She has four home runs and 10 stolen bases.

A look at the regional rankings:
Last week (Wednesday, April 20), Lock Haven was ranked No. 8 in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings and an updated poll will come out tomorrow afternoon. LHU was one of six PSAC teams in the top-eight last week.

LHU's resume is strong thanks to key wins over No. 2 Charleston (March 12) and No. 4 Bloomsburg (April 22).

Up next:
If Lock Haven beats Kutztown tomorrow, the Bald Eagles will return to action on Thursday, April 28 at 3 p.m. (Game 9) vs. the winner of the California – IUP game. If LHU drops its game tomorrow, the Bald Eagles play at noon (Game 8) Thursday vs. the loser of Game 6.
