LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University softball team (34-16) was back in action today (Thursday, April 28) on Day 2 of the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament, but the Bald Eagles came up short, falling to No. 7 California (Pa.) University (34-2), 7-2.
Yesterday, LHU opened the PSAC Tournament with a 4-3 victory over Kutztown. The Bald Eagles will return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. in an elimination game with Millersville. The game was originally scheduled for this afternoon at 2 p.m., but heavy rain caused a delay and pushed the game until Friday morning.
California scored its seven runs on 12 hits and jumped on Lock Haven early. The Vulcans scored five runs in the top of the first inning.
The Bald Eagle got one back in the bottom of the third when
McKenna Garlock's (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) sacrifice fly pushed home a run.
In the bottom of the sixth a California-error led to the Bald Eagles second run.
Cal led 5-2 after six and added to its lead in the top half of the seventh when Jacquelyn Fowler hit a two-run home run.
Jessica Strouse (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain),
Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and
Gabrielle Henson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) all had hits for Lock Haven, as did
Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy), who was 1 for 1 with a run scored.
Lock Haven returns to action tomorrow (Friday, April 29) at 10 a.m. vs. Millersville. The game was originally schedule for this afternoon, but rain in Quakertown pushed the game to tomorrow. The loser will be eliminated from the PSAC Tournament.
