MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Lock Haven University baseball team (19-28-1, 7-18-1 PSAC East) used the long ball to down Mansfield University (18-25-1, 6-19-1 PSAC East) 5-4 in game one today at Mansfield in the first of a four game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division series.
In game two, Mansfield rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 9-9, before the game was called because of heavy rain. The game ends in a 9-9 tie.
The Bald Eagles got home runs from
Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) and
Jamie Eshleman (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) to go along with a solid pitching effort to take down Mansfield in game one, 5-4.
Moore hit a solo home run in the second and Eshleman blasted a three-run homer in the third to give Lock Haven the 4-0 lead.
With the game tied at 4-4 in the sixth,
Sam Kysor (Port Allegany, Pa./USC Upstate) doubled to right field, driving in the eventual winning-run.
Nick Stotler (Pittsburgh/Coke College) went 2 for 4 at the plate and
Evan McFarland (Cottonwood, Ariz./Gateway Community College) was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
It was a three-man job that got it done for Lock Haven on the mound in game one.
Zach Manuppelli (Pittsburgh/USC Upstate) got the start and struck out eight over four innings, before giving way to
Brett Morrison (Duncannon, Pa./Suquenita), who was credited with the win after a strong two innings. In the seventh,
Nick Hornbaker (Lancaster, Pa./East Stroudsburg Univ.) came in and recorded the save. Altogether, the trio combined for 11 strikeouts.
Game two ended in a 9-9 tie because of heavy rain that started in the sixth inning.
Lock Haven led 9-4, but Mansfield rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The two teams combined for 18 runs on 26 hits in game two.
Once again, Lock Haven benefitted from the long ball.
Matt Lahn (Georgetown, ONT./Erie Community College) hit a three-run home-run in the third and Stotler hit a three-run homer in the sixth.
Five different Lock Haven players had multiple hit games, including Stotler, Lahn, Eshleman,
Hunter Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Hagerstown Community College) and
Giovanni Torres (Harrisburg, Pa./Harford Community College).
Mike Anthony (Audubon, Pa./North Hampton Community College) got the start and was solid for five innings, finishing with five strikeouts.
Lock Haven and Mansfield will do it again tomorrow (Saturday, April 30) at LHU's Foundation Field. Game 1 is set for a 1 p.m. start as the Bald Eagles celebrate Senior Day.
