LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Despite controlling much of the possession and outshooting visiting Shippensburg University 12-7, the Lock Haven University men's soccer team was edged by the Red Raiders 2-0 in a physical Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) clash.
The loss snapped the Bald Eagles (4-2-1, 2-1 PSAC) four-match unbeaten streak and marked LHU's first conference loss of the season.
Shippensburg (5-2, 2-2 PSAC) got second-half goals from Tyler Whitehead and Marc Furfaro. Whitehead scored in the 58
th minute and Furfaro put the game away with a goal in the 88
th minute.
Troy Amspacher (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley), the league's premier player had five shots in the match, but couldn't break through on the scoresheet for LHU.
Matt Botros (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) and
Alec Mapoy (Brick, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) both turned in strong workmanlike performances for Lock Haven head coach
Patrick Long.
The Bald Eagles will look to start a new winning streak on Saturday, September 24 at rival East Stroudsburg (1 p.m.).
