CLARION, Pa. – Janelle Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) scored 1:43 in the second overtime period to lift the Lock Haven University women's soccer team (3-5, 2-5 PSAC) past Clarion University (2-7-2, 2-6-1 PSAC) 3-2 (2OT) tonight in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
Jordan Shoff (York, Pa./York Suburban) and
Gabby Kishbaugh (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) also scored for the Bald Eagles, netting a pair of quick strikes in the second-half less than two minutes apart that helped give the Bald Eagles the huge road win, and get The Haven back in the win column.
Marina Kelly put Clarion up 1-0 in the 28
th minute and the Golden Eagles led 1-0 at halftime.
The game broke open offensively in the second half and it was LHU who gained the upper hand first, thanks to goals in the 66
th and 68
th minute.
Shoff scored first off a pass from
Erika Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) and less than two minutes later Kishbaugh scored off a pass from
Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) to make it 2-1 Lock Haven.
The resilient hosts battled back and tied the match at 2-2 in the 80
th minute.
After 90 minutes the two teams remained tied (2-2) and headed to OT.
Lock Haven dominated the first 10-minute overtime period and rattled off four shots, but none could find the back of the net.
Early in the second OT (101:43), the Bald Eagles found the game-winner after Swartz headed home a Shoff corner kick.
Shoff finished the match with a goal and an assist.
LHU's defense buckled down in overtime and only allowed one shot in an impressive effort.
Lock Haven goalkeeper
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) made two big saves when called upon and was key in the victory.
The Bald Eagles will waste little time in getting back to the pitch and return to action tomorrow (Saturday, October 1) at Seton Hill (4:30 p.m.).
