The LHU wrestling team closed out the 2017 Virginia Duals with a loss to No. 24 Virginia in the Silver Division Championship.

HAMPTON, Va. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team (5-5) closed out two days of action at the Virginia Duals with a loss to the University of Virginia, ranked No. 24 in the nation, 31-11.

Adam Mackie (Bechtelsville, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and Thomas Haines (Quarryville, Pa./Ohio State) both won for LHU by way of tech fall and pin, respectively.

Yesterday (Friday, Jan. 13), LHU went 2-1 on day one action at the 37th annual Virginia Duals. The Bald Eagles picked up a dominating win over Kent State University and edged the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in thriller. Lock Haven lost to No. 5 Virginia Tech University

Today's Silver Division Championship match marked the second time this season where LHU and UVA faced off. Back on November 20 at Virginia, the Cavaliers downed Lock Haven 24-16.

The Cavaliers lineup today featured three nationally-ranked wrestlers including No. 7 Jack Mueller (125), No. 7 George DiCamillo (141) and No. 8 Andrew Atkinson (157), and all three posted wins for Virginia.

After six straight UVA wins, Mackie put the Bald Eagles on the board in a big way as he picked up a dominating 16-1 tech fall over Christopher Yankowich at 174 pounds.

Haines capped the match on a Haven high note as he pinned Tyler Love at the 6:18 mark  of their 285-pound bout.

Lock Haven's 2-2 run at the Virginia Duals moves the Bald Eagles to 5-5 overall on the season.

The trip the Virginia Duals was Lock Haven's first to the tournament since 2014 and LHU's 16th all-time appearance at the prestigious mid-season event. Lock Haven's 16 appearances are the sixth-most of any collegiate team.

On Saturday, January 21, the Bald Eagles will travel to the University of Pennsylvania for a noon match at the Palestra, before heading to Cornell on Sunday, January 22 (1 p.m.).
