Football set for short trip east, headed to Bloomsburg

The LHU football team is set to make the short trip east and take on Bloomsburg University in PSAC Eastern Division action Saturday.

Setting the stage:

The Lock Haven University football team is set to make the short trip east to take on local-rival Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action. Kickoff Saturday (Oct. 28) at BU's Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium is set for 2 p.m.
 
LHU is 1-7 overall and 1-4 in PSAC East action. The Bald Eagles are coming off a 55-26 home-loss to Kutztown.
 
It marks the second straight week where Lock Haven will take on an opponent who shares the PSAC East lead. The Huskies are 6-2 overall and 4-1 in PSAC East play. Last week, BU rallied to take down East Stroudsburg, 38-28.  
 
Haven hits:
  • Despite the loss last week to Kutztown, the Bald Eagles got a pair of rushing TDs from RB John Ford.
  • For Ford it was his second straight two-TD game.
  • On the season, the Bald Eagles have 13 rushing touchdowns. 11 of those 13 rushing TDs have come in the last three games.
  • DB Carlos Balkcom recorded his fifth INT of the season and took it 51 yards for a TD. Balkcom also returned a blocked PAT 90-plus yards for two points.
  • Balcom's five INTs are the second most in the PSAC this season.
  • DB Isaiah Flamer leads LHU with 74 tackles, including 50 solo.
  • Flamer leads the PSAC in solo tackles with 50 and is tied for 5th in the PSAC in total tackles (74).
  • A pair of true freshmen from Williamsport, Pennsylvania led the receiving corps vs. Kutztown. WR Elliot Walker finished with six catches and a game-high 84 receiving yards and TE Jalen Jackson made four catches for 30 yards.
  • LHU head coach Dave Taynor (Urbana, '99) is in his third season as head coach at LHU (3rd season (7-23 at LHU), 10th overall (44-63).
 
The series with Bloomsburg:
  • Saturday marks the 87th meeting in the series
  • Bloomsburg has a slight edge in the series at 43-40-3

  • Notes: Last year's LHU win snapped a six-game losing streak to Bloomsburg and marked the Bald Eagles first win over BU since 2003

Next week the Bald Eagles open a two-game homestand to wrap up the 2017 season. On Saturday, Nov. 4 (Week 10), LHU hosts East Stroudsburg at 12 p.m. Lock Haven will close the 2017 season on Saturday, Nov. 11 vs. Mercyhurst at 12 p.m.
