LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) and
Kayla Henderson (Philadelphia, Pa./Lackawanna College) combined for 29 points and 20 rebounds and the Bald Eagles were sparked by the return of Maiuma Kenneh (Coatesville, Pa./Collegium Charter) as the Lock Haven University women's basketball team soared past West Chester (9-15, 9-11 PSAC), 62-57.
With Lock Haven (9-15, 6-14 PSAC) needing a win to keep its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoff hopes alive, the Bald Eagles came through on the biggest stage of the season.
LHU was dominant in the second half and put the game away in the fourth, outscoring WCU, 15-6 over the final 10 minutes.
Mealing scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the senior excelled on Senior Day. It marked Mealing's ninth straight double-double (pts. & rbs.) and her 15
th of the season.
Henderson scored 12 points and matched her career-high with eight rebounds.
Kenneh, who hadn't played since December 10, 2016, returned the lineup. She scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. With Lock Haven leading by three, 60-57, she grabbed a defensive rebound with nine seconds left and iced the game with two free-throws in the final seconds of the contest.
With 4:51 left in the game, it was tied 54-54, but Lock Haven rolled down the stretch.
Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) added eight points.
Prior to the game, Lock Haven honored its graduating seniors including Mealing, as well as
Mackenzie Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./IUP),
Emily James (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield HS) and
Sydney Morse (Norristown, Pa./Norristown)
It was also Alumnae Day, as the Bald Eagles biggest win of the season came in front a large group of former LHU women's basketball players.
Lock Haven will return to the court on Wednesday, February 22 as The Haven are set to host local-rival Mansfield University in the last home game of the regular season.
