BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (10-16, 7-15 PSAC) came up just short in the Bald Eagles 2016-17 regular season finale, falling to local-rival Bloomsburg University (10-16, 9-13 PSAC), 61-50.
Today's loss eliminated Lock Haven from Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament contention. LHU finished the 2016-17 season with a 10-16 overall record and the Bald Eagles went 7-15 in PSAC play.
Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), one of four graduating seniors, made her last game in crimson and white a memorable one. She scored a career-high 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. It marked her 16
th double-double of the year.
Kayla Henderson (Philadelphia/Lackawanna College) finished the year with another big game, netting 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists.
Madison McHale (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) chipped in with eight points.
Despite the loss, the Bald Eagles closed the season on an outstanding run, winning three of their five final games. Entering today's game, LHU had won two straight and three of its last four, which kept Lock Haven in the playoff race.
Mealing (26 GP/26 GS) finished the season with 12.7 rebounds per game, leading the entire PSAC for the second straight season. In 22 of her 26 games, she recorded double-digit rebounds. Her 824 career rebounds are the second-most in school history and her career rebounds per game – 11.1 – also ranked second in school history.
