LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (20-8) scored 13 runs on 17 hits and won the opener today, 13-3 over Seton Hill University (20-12), before the Griffins battled back to take game two, 12-11 in a high-scoring doubleheader.
Both teams entered today's contest ranked in the top-five in the Atlantic Region. The two teams combined for 39 runs on 50 hits over the two games.
In all, Lock Haven plated 24 runs and recorded 32 of the 50 total hits in the doubleheader.
In game one, Lock Haven scored 13 runs on 17 hits and downed Seton Hill 13-3.
It was a long list of players who got the job done at the plate, including
Jamie Eshleman (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land), who was 3 for 4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Eshleman was one of five players who recorded a multiple-hit game.
Cayden Stover (Beech Creek, Pa./Chesapeake College) was 2 for 3 and hit a three-run home run in the third inning.
Hunter Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Hagerstown Community College) went 3 for 5 with a RBI and three runs scored.
Nick Stotler's (Pittsburgh/Coker College) and
Matt Lahn (Georgetown, ONT./Erie Community College) both went 2 for 3 with a RBI, and
Sam Kysor (Port Allegany, Pa./USC Upstate) drove in a pair of runs.
Pitcher
Tom Cockill (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Mercer Community College) picked up the win after six innings of work. He allowed seven hits and one walk. Cockill struck out two.
In game two, Seton Hill used a home run in the top of the seventh to slip past Lock Haven, 12-11.
Lock Haven scored its 11 runs on 15 hits and battled back to make it a game after trailing 10-2 after 2 ½ innings.
Stover hit another home run in game two, as did
Brady Chappell (Milton, Pa./Milton). Chappell's homer was a two-run shot in the third and Stover drilled a three-run home run in the fourth.
Six different LHU players recorded a multiple-hit game in the nightcap, including Stover and Stotler who both tallied three-hit games.
Lock Haven and Bloomsburg University will open a four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East series on Friday, April 14 in Bloomsburg (1/3 p.m.). LHU will host the Huskies on Saturday (April 15) at 1 p.m.
