LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth in Game 2, which powered the Bald Eagles to a 1-0 victory and helped the Lock Haven University softball team (12-12, 3-1 PSAC Central) sweep rival IUP (8-11, 0-2 PSAC Central) today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central action.
Lock Haven won Game 1, 1-0 in walk-off fashion and Caputo's home run led LHU to the extra inning win in Game 2 (1-0, 9 inn.).
Caputo went 4 for 6 at the plate in today's doubleheader.
With the two wins, Lock Haven moves back .500 on the season (12-12) and jumps out to a 3-1 mark in PSAC Central play.
LHU took Game 1 in walk-off fashion after an IUP throwing error in the bottom of the seventh brought home the winning run for the Bald Eagles.
For second time in as many days,
Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) was strong in the circle. Over seven innings she allowed just four hits and struck out five on the way to the complete-game shutout victory.
Caputo was 2 for 2 at the plate in Game 1.
Caputo was at it again in Game 2 and she led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo homer that gave LHU the walk-off win.
She was 2 for 4 in the nightcap.
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) scattered just four hits and struck out eight IUP batters over nine innings as she went the extra distance in the complete-game shutout win.
LHU split at Pitt-Johnstown yesterday in the Bald Eagles 2017 PSAC Central opening series.
The Bald Eagles will return to action on Friday, April 7 at Mansfield (2:30 p.m.) and LHU hosts Bloomsburg on Saturday, April 8 (1 p.m.).
