LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team is set for the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament. The Bald Eagles, the No. 3 seed from the East, will open tournament play tomorrow (Wednesday, May 10) at 3:30 p.m. vs. IUP, the No. 2 seed from the West.
The 2017 PSAC Tournament opens Wednesday (May 10) and runs through Sunday (May 14) at Point Stadium in Johnstown, Pa.
The Bald Eagles closed the 2017 regular season with a 2-2 series split vs. nationally-ranked West Chester. Lock Haven is 31-16 overall. IUP is 22-23 overall and Lock Haven beat IUP last week (May 2) 5-4 in a scheduled nine-inning game.
Haven's Historic 2017 season continues:
Lock Haven's 31 wins are a school record for wins in a single season and LHU's 16 PSAC East wins (16-12) are Lock Haven's most PSAC Divisional wins for a single season. For Lock Haven, it's the first winning season since 2002.
PSAC Tournament history:
For the first time since 2009, LHU is headed to the PSAC Tournament. It's just the fourth time since 1996 that Lock Haven has qualified for the postseason conference tournament (2009, 2002, 2000 & 1996). Lock Haven won three PSAC titles in the early 1950's.
LHU in the rankings:
For the majority of the season, Lock Haven has been regionally ranked. Last week, LHU was ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Atlantic Region rankings. Yesterday (Monday, May 8), LHU was ranked No. 4 in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Atlantic Region Poll.
Lock Haven stats & storylines:
- As a team, LHU is hitting .326, which ranks No. 2 in the PSAC, behind only top-ranked Mercyhurst.
- Kolby DeHaas is hitting .411 (46 GP), which ranks No. 6 in the PSAC.
- Cayden Stover's 20 doubles are a single-season school record and rank No. 2 in the PSAC.
- As a staff, the Bald Eagle pitchers rank No. 5 in the PSAC in team ERA (4.49) and are sixth in total strikeouts with 322.
