LHU Football falls at No. 25 Slippery Rock

The LHU football team dropped its Week 3 PSAC crossover clash at No. 25 Slippery Rock, 33-7.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team's (0-3) bid for an upset came up short as the Bald Eagles fell to No. 25 Slippery Rock University (3-0) tonight on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action.

The Bald Eagles trailed 13-0 at halftime, but came out firing in the third quarter and took the opening drive of the second half 73 yards for a touchdown. John Ford's (Etters, Pa./Shippensburg) 1-yard plunge into the end zone capped the 14-play (6:11) drive, which marked LHU's first TD of the season.

Ford's TD made it a one-possession game, but SRU responded with 10 unanswered points in the third quarter. The Rock led 23-7 after three, and in the fourth, Slippery Rock pulled away.

Redshirt-junior Jimmy Strickland (Plymouth, Pa./East Stroudsburg Univ.) made his first career start at quarterback and he finished 8 for 18 for 63 yards. The Bald Eagle offense featured a two-quarterback system tonight as true-freshman Kyle Knight (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon) also saw significant time at quarterback. Knight carried the ball 22 times for 104 yards.

Kyeef Williams (Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Charter) and Bryan Greene (Milesburg, Pa./Bald Eagle) combined for seven catches.

Isaiah Flamer (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) led the LHU defense with 12 tackles and Fernando Flores (York, Pa./Northeastern) finished with nine tackles, and one interception.

Next week (Week 4), the Bald Eagles will host PSAC East preseason favorite West Chester at 2 p.m. The game marks Lock Haven's 2017 home-opener, PSAC East opener, and the Bald Eagles will celebrate Homecoming.
