Field Hockey returns home to host VCU & UMass

Week 5 Notes: After six straight road games, the LHU field hockey team will return home to host Virginia Commonwealth (Friday) and Massachusetts (Sunday) as part of The Haven’s 2017 Homecoming Weekend.

Haven hits:
  • After 26 days and six games, Lock Haven will return home for a game on Charlotte Smith Field.
  • It's a fitting return home for LHU as it marks The Haven's 2017 Homecoming Weekend.
  • LHU went 5-1 on the six-game road swing.
  • The Bald Eagles are 2-0 at home.
  • LHU is 6-2 overall and 1-1 in A-10 action.
  • Both games this weekend are conference games.
  • Alyscia Smith leads Lock Haven with six goals and 15 points.
  • R-Sr. goalkeeper Paige Stuppy has logged every minute in goal for LHU.
 
Setting the stage:
After six straight road games, the Lock Haven University field hockey team will return home for the first time since the second game of the 2017 season back on August 27. Lock Haven is 2-0 at home.
 
Last weekend, the Bald Eagles opened Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) play with a 1-1 record. Lock Haven beat La Salle 1-0 in OT before falling to nationally-ranked Saint Joseph's, 3-1.
 
On Friday, September 22, Lock Haven hosts Virginia Commonwealth at 3 p.m. Last season, LHU beat VCU, 2-1 and the Bald Eagles are 3-2 all-time vs. the Rams.
 
On Sunday, September 24, Lock Haven will host Massachusetts at 12 p.m. Last season, UMass won 3-2 and Lock Haven is 1-8 all-time vs. the Minutewomen.
 
Rudy headed to the Hall of Fame:
On Wednesday, September 20, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2017 Hall of Fame Class and LHU head coach Pat Rudy was part of the class. Former Bryn Mawr head coach Jenepher Shillingford and former Walpole (Mass.) head coach Penny Calf join Rudy as 2017 honorees. Rudy entered the 2017 season with 583 career wins. Dominating overtime:
So far this season, Lock Haven is a perfect 3-0 in overtime. In just the second game (Aug. 28) of the 2017 season, LHU downed visiting Central Michigan 3-2 in OT. On September 8, LHU dropped host Colgate 1-0 in double-OT. The Bald Eagles opened A-10 action on Friday, September 15 with a thrilling 1-0 OT win over La Salle.
