LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (2-0-1) put together a dominating 90-minute effort today which helped the Bald Eagles blank the University of the District of Columbia (1-2), 4-0 at home.
For the second straight match the goals came often. LHU followed up its five-goal effort on Monday (Sept. 4) with four more goals today. Over the last two matches – both at home – Lock Haven has outscored its opponents 9-3. Today's win also helped, The Haven remain unbeaten at 2-0-1.
A number of individuals stood out today including senior
Zach Hommey (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville), who scored twice. Freshman
Chase Tackett (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), who has played outstanding through the first three games of the 2017 season at left back, added two assists today.
In the midfield, both
Christian Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Muhlenberg) and
Matthew McDermott (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg H.S.) continue to impress.
Camden Cook (Rosedale, Md./High Point) made his first collegiate start in goal and finished with two saves in a solid 90-minute outing.
Freshman scoring sensation
Reggie Holt (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills), who scored the first two goals of his career on Monday, opened the scoring today late in the first half. In the 39
th minute, Holt put the Bald Eagles up 1-0 on his third goal of the season.
LHU led UDC 1-0 at halftime on Holt's strike.
Hommey knocked home a rebound in the 51
st minute to put LHU up 2-0 and
Shane Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) headed home a long free kick in the 82
nd minute to put Lock Haven up 3-0. Tackett was credited with the assist on both goals.
In the 83
rd minute, Hommey was at it again and put Lock Haven up 4-0. His bending free kick from 19 yards out rounded out the Bald Eagles' offensive surge.
After three straight home games to start the season, the Bald Eagles will hit the road for a non-conference match at Le Moyne on Saturday, September 9 (2 p.m.).
