Bald Eagles set for Virginia Duals

The No. 20/17 LHU wrestling team is set for a busy weekend at the 2018 Virginia Duals.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The nationally-ranked Lock Haven University wrestling team is headed back to the Virginia Duals. The 2018 Virginia Duals are scheduled for Friday and Saturday (Jan. 12-13) at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia.
 
This weekend will mark Lock Haven's 17th all-time appearance at the dual-meet tournament. The No. 20/17 Bald Eagles 4-0 on the season in dual action and hold a 30-30 all-time mark at the Virginia Duals.
 
LHU was drawn into the York River Pool with Fresno State, Oklahoma and local-rival Bucknell. The Bald Eagles will compete against all three teams on Friday.
 
The rest of the tournament field includes No. 9 Virginia Tech, No. 10 Arizona State, No. 11 Northern Iowa, Kent State (RV), Chattanooga, Virginia, Iowa State, Campbell and Old Dominion.

9 a.m. vs. Fresno State | first meeting between LHU & Fresno State
11 a.m. vs. Oklahoma | second meeting, LHU won 31-9 in 1988
1 p.m. vs. Bucknell | LHU is 17-4 all-time vs. local-rival, Bucknell won last meeting in 2016, 24-13

LHU in the national rankings:
Lock Haven moved back to No. 20 in this week's USA Today/NWCA Coaches poll. The No. 20 ranking marks a two-spot jump from last week (No. 22).
 
The Bald Eagles also remained at No. 17 in this week's InterMat Dual Meet rankings. The trio of Ronnie Perry, Chance Marsteller and Thomas Haines all remained ranked by InterMat. Perry (149) is ranked No. 20 this week and Marsteller remained at No. 7 at 165 this week. Haines (285) rounded out the trio with a No. 13 ranking.
 
Perry, Marsteller, Haines and Kyle Shoop found themselves ranked this week by Amateur Wrestling News. Shoop check in at No. 19 at 141. Perry was ranked No. 18, Marsteller No. 14 and Haines No. 16 by Amateur Wrestling News.
 
Marsteller named EWL Athlete of the Week:
On Monday, Jan. 8, Chance Marsteller was named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Athlete of the Week.
 
It marks the second time this season that Marsteller has taken home weekly athlete of the week honors from the EWL. The nationally-ranked 165-pounder is coming off a third-place finish at the prestigious Southern Scuffle tournament. Marsteller's third-place finish helped the Bald Eagles place 10th overall in the team standings, LHU's highest ever finish at the event.
 
At the Scuffle, Marsteller went 5-1 overall. He opened the tournament 3-0, before falling in the semifinals. Despite his first loss of the season in the semis, he bounced back and rattled off two more wins for third.
 
Up next:
Following action at the Virginia Duals, the Bald Eagles will return to the mats on Saturday, Jan. 20 when they head to George Mason for a 12 p.m. EWL dual. The Bald Eagles will host Brown in non-conference action on Sunday, Jan 21 at 1 p.m.
