LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's soccer team (5-6-2, 3-4-1 PSAC) fell to Mercyhurst (6-4-2, 3-2-2 PSAC) by a score of 4 to 3.
Mercyhurst held a slight 12-10 advantage in shots, however Lock Haven led 6-5 in corners.
The Lakers took an early two goal lead, but the Bald Eagles got one back when
Christian Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Muhlenberg) caught the Laker defense off guard, taking a quick free kick and finishing it to the far post.
Down 4-1 late in the second half, in the 73
rd minute
Brian Flatter (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) made some magic happen when he bent a shot from distance past the keeper.
Only two minutes later in the 75
th minute,
Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown), who led the Bald Eagles in shots with 5, scored after collecting a pass from
Colton Dellinger (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and tucking it past the keeper for his team leading 7
th goal of the year.
Despite a strong final push from the Bald Eagles, including a last minute header from Sibiski that missed just high, Mercyhurst was able to hold on to the lead as the score finished 4-3.
LHU will hit the road to take on West Chester on Sunday, October 14 (3:30 p.m.).
