GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (7-2-1, 7-2-1 PSAC) downed host Seton Hill (8-3-1, 7-3-1 PSAC), 2-1, extending the Bald Eagles win streak and recent unbeaten run.
The win helped LHU pocket another huge three points in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play and came on the road at Seton Hill vs. a team that sat thee points ahead of Lock Haven in the PSAC standings. The host Griffins were on a four-match unbeaten streak of their own.
The win marked Lock Haven's fourth straight and the Bald Eagles extended their unbeaten stretch to six, going 5-0-1 over that last six games, all PSAC contests.
The seven wins mark the most in a single season since LHU finished the 2016 season with seven. It also Lock Haven's first four-game win streak since 2007.
Tied 0-0 at half, the Bald Eagles put on the pressure in the second. LHU broke through on the scoresheet in the 54
th minute when
Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) collected a pass from
Gabby Kishbaugh (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) down the left side of the field and slotted a shot into the far post.
Not long after,
Haleigh Swam (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) broke into the box and was taken down earning a penalty kick in the 57
th minute. She calmly converted the penalty into the bottom left corner.
The Griffins were able to get a goal back late, but the Bald Eagle defense held strong to keep the lead. The defense was led by
Jordan Shoff (York, Pa./York Suburban),
Erika Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run),
Janelle Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata), and
Taylor Moritz (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton).
The Griffins held a slight lead in shots 11-10. LHU goalkeeper
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) made four saves.
Lock Haven will return to the field on Friday, October 12 when the Bald Eagles host Mercyhurst at 1 p.m.
