LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (3-1) bested the Wilmington University Wildcats (0-6) 81-73 on Tuesday night in the Thomas Fieldhouse
The Bald Eagles and Wildcats battled to a deadlocked first half and took marginal 35-33 lead into the locker room. In an intense third quarter, neither team was able to gain any ground and the Bald Eagles entered the fourth quarter with a slight 55-54 advantage. Lock Haven came out a team possessed in the fourth quarter and built a 74-63 lead with just under three minutes remaining. The Bald Eagles capitalized on the run and finished an impressive 26-19 fourth quarter performance to down the Wildcats 81-73.
In a balanced offensive attack, four Bald Eagles ended the night in double figures. Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) asserted herself in the paint for a 22-point outburst and eight rebounds. Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) was all over the court and added 16 points nine boards and four assists. Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College) and Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) chipped in offensively scoring 14 and 13, respectively.
The Haven held a decisive 51-38 advantage over Wilmington on the glass and a 20-11 offensive rebounding edge. The Haven's team rebounding effort was led by Leidy and Redman's nine rebounds each. Leidy also led the Haven in steals recording three of the teams eight on the night.
