Football falls on the road at No. 11 West Chester

The LHU football team fell on the road to No. 11 West Chester, 48-14 Saturday afternoon at West Chester.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team (1-9, 1-5 PSAC East) totaled 288 yards of offense on the day, but it wasn't enough as the Bald Eagles fell to No. 11 West Chester (9-0, 6-0 PSAC East), 48-14 Saturday afternoon on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
 
The Golden Rams jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game mid-way through the first quarter, but LHU responded with a four-play, 65-yard drive that was capped off by a 25-yard touchdown run by Ralph Hyland (Philadelphia/Frankford) to cut the WCU lead to 10-7.
 
LHU was able to put another touchdown on the board late in the game when Quarterback Cameron Tobias (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) led the Bald Eagles on an eight-play, 71-yard drive that ended with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Bryan Greene (Milesburg, Pa./Bald Eagle), but it was not enough as No. 11 West Chester was able to get the win.
 
Tobias finished the game 13 for 23 through the air for 181 yards and the touchdown to Greene while also adding 13 yards on the ground.
 
Greene led the Bald Eagle receiving core, totaling five catches for 82 yards and the 14-yard touchdown. Tight End Jalen Jackson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) added three catches on the day for 40 yards.
 
Hyland led the LHU rushing attack as he ran for 76 yards on 14 carries, including his 25-yard touchdown run that put Lock Haven on the board early. He also added two catches for 19 yards.
 
Defensively, Linebacker Obadiah Asare (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) had another strong game. Asare finished the game with 14 tackles including six solos and three tackles for loss. Dontae Mason (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt), Javon Whitfield (Philadelphia/Simon Gratz) and Alex Welch (Highesville, Pa./Hughesville) all had strong defensive games as well, all finishing with 11 tackles apiece. Mason finished with a team-high eight solo stops while Whitfield added six solos. Welch added three solo tackles and a pass breakup.
 
The Bald Eagles will close out the 2018 season next weekend (Week 11: Saturday, November 10) at Gannon University (12 p.m.).
