INDIANA, Pa. - The Lock Haven University softball team (28-10, 16-0 PSAC Central) travelled to Indiana (Pa.) (14-12, 8-6 PSAC Central) and knocked off the Crimson Hawks in both contests as The Haven took game one 6-3 before finishing the sweep with a 6-1 victory.
With the sweep the Bald Eagles are the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division champions as they have won 21 of its last 22 games including all 16 conference contests.
This marks the first time since 2009 that LHU has earned PSAC Central Champions and it marks Lock Haven's 10
th time since 1993.
Game 1: W, 6-3
Lock Haven jumped out to an early lead as they scored two runs in the first and three runs in the third to take the 5-0 lead.
The Bald Eagles got on the scoreboard in the first after
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) singled to left field to score both
Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) and
Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain).
Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) and
Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) also chipped in scoring one run each.
Amanda Loar (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Senior) went 3-4 from the plate and Lindsey recorded a triple during the 6-3 win.
LHU's starting pitcher was
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) who threw a complete game striking out three and scattering five hits on her way to recording her 13
th win of the season.
Game 2: W, 6-1
Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa/Loyalsock) earned her 13
th win of the year as she went the distance and struck out three while only allowing three hits and one earned run.
Carpenter led the Bald Eagle offense as she went 3-4 with three RBI's including a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
The Haven took the lead in the fourth inning after Carpenter singled through the right side and
Traci Kromko (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to make it a 2-0 game.
Kromko and Caputo each hit doubles that resulted in runs scoring as the Bald Eagles scored one more run in the sixth and three in the seventh.
