CLARION, Pa. – The LHU softball team (32-10, 18-0 PSAC Central) went on the road to Clarion University (6-29, 3-15 PSAC Central) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central matchup and swept the Golden Eagles to cap the Bald Eagles road contests with an impressive 13-1 record away from Lawrence Field, on the campus of Lock Haven University.
Lock Haven won game one 5-0 before capping the day with a 4-0 victory.
With the sweep, The Haven pushed its current win streak to 10, as it is the second time this season LHU has had a win streak of over 10 games as Lock Haven had a 15 game win streak earlier this year. The 18 wins in the PSAC Central also marks the most wins for Lock Haven since moving to the Central division.
GAME 1: W, 5-0
The Bald Eagles jumped out to the early lead in game one as they scored in the first three innings to take the 5-0 lead which would hold for the remainder of the game.
Six different batters recorded at least one hit as
Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) and
Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) both recorded two hits each.
Capuato also chipped in with two RBI's and both
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and
Traci Kromko (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) drove in a run apiece.
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) struck out 11 batters as she scattered three hits and pitched all 7 innings.
GAME 2: W, 4-0
Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) led the Bald Eagles in game two as she went 3-3 at the plate and drove in two runs.
The Haven scored in the third inning after Ceely singled to second base to plate Mathes.
Mathes then came up in the fifth and launched a solo home run to give LHU the 2-0 lead. To cap the scoring in the seventh inning both Mathes and Kromko hit doubles to score one run each and extended the lead to 4-0 which would stand as the final score.
Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) pitched all 7 innings as she allowed only four hits and fanned five batters.
