Game Recap: Field Hockey |

LHU edged by Sacred Heart, 3-2

The LHU field hockey team was edged out 3-2 today vs. Sacred Heart despite a late rally.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Despite a late rally and a late goal, the Lock Haven University field hockey team (1-1) was edged out by Sacred Heart University (1-0), 3-2 today at Lehigh.

Sacred Heart led 2-1 at halftime on first-half goals from Kelsey Hopkins and Olivia Lehane.

Trailing 2-0, Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) put the Bald Eagles on the board shortly before halftime. Roach knocked home a pass from Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) on a play that developed off a penalty corner. The goal was the first of the season for Roach.

The late first half goal cut into the Pioneer lead.

Leading 2-1, Sacred Heart found a third goal in the 53rd minute.

Despite being down 3-1, the Bald Eagles rallied and the late pressure paid off when Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) scored with just 2:07 left in the match. The late-goal got Lock Haven within one (3-2), but Scared Heart held on for the win. The LHU goal marked the first of the 2018 campaign for De Gannes and it came off an assist from freshman Karina Long (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin).

LHU goalkeeper Brianna DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa./Monmouth) finished with three saves.

With today's loss, Lock Haven moves to 1-1 on the young season.

Last night (Friday, August 24), Lock Haven opened the 2018 season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lehigh. LHU outshot Lehigh 23-6 and Taryn Piano (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) scored the game's only goal in the 44th minute of play.

The Bald Eagles will return to action on Friday, August 31 at 6 p.m. when they host Towson. The non-conference match will serve as LHU's 2018 home-opener. It will be a busy weekend at Charlotte Smith Field as Lock Haven will cap the weekend by hosting Cornell on Sunday, September 2 at 1 p.m.
