Field Hockey to host Towson, Cornell

The LHU field hockey team’s 2018 home opener is set for Friday (Aug. 31) night at 6 p.m.

8/29/2018 1:40:00 PM

For the first time in 2018, the LHU field hockey team will play at home on Charlotte Smith Field Friday evening.

Setting the stage:
On Friday, August 31, Lock Haven will host Towson at 6 p.m. It will mark LHU's first home game of the 2018 season. A busy weekend at home will wrap up with a Sunday (September 2) match vs. Cornell (1 p.m.).

LHU is 1-1 on the year, while Towson is 0-2. Cornell will open its 2018 season on Friday at Bucknell.

Last season, the Bald Eagles won four games at home. In all, Lock Haven will host nine home games during the 2018 season including Atlantic 10 (A-10) contests vs. preseason-favorite Saint Joseph's, Saint Francis, Saint Louis and La Salle.

1-1 on opening weekend:
The Bald Eagles opened the season last weekend with a pair of games at Lehigh. In the opener, Lock Haven downed host Lehigh, 1-0, thanks to a second-half goal from Taryn Piano. It was the only goal of the match, but the only one LHU needed to the secure victory. Less than 24 hours after the season-opening victory, LHU took to the field again at Lehigh and took on Sacred Heart. Despite a late-game rally, LHU fell 3-2.

Rudy's march to 600:
LHU's Hall of Fame head coach Pat Rudy entered the season with 593 wins so the win over Lehigh pushed her to 594, and just six wins away from the historic 600-win mark. In history, only two others coaches have reached 600 wins in collegiate field hockey.

Names on the score sheet:
On the season, LHU's three goals have come from three different players: Tamia Roach, Dana-Lee De Gannes and Taryn Piano. Alyscia Smith has two assists and rookie Karina Long has one.

Up next:
On Friday, September 7, Lock Haven will head to Bucknell for a 4 p.m. match. The Bald Eagles will host Colgate on Sunday, September 9.
