LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (5-7, 4-5 PSAC) dropped a hotly contested matchup against California (Pa.) University (6-8, 4-4 PSAC) 78-74, Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
The Bald Eagles trailed by 11 going into halftime and were down by as much as 14 points for most of the second half. The Haven would battle back furiously to cut the Vulcan lead to three with 17 seconds left in the game, but the California defense held strong and the Bald Eagle comeback fell just short.
The Bald Eagles were paced offensively by a career day from
Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) who dominated in the paint and dropped 22 points to go with nine boards. McPherson also added three blocks, two steals and went 8-10 from the free throw line.
Three other Bald Eagles tallied double-figures as
Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) knocked in 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Noah Warren (Chester, Pa./Neuman-Goretti) also contributed 11 points on 3-5 shooting from beyond the arc and
Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added 11 points and five assists.
LHU will host Shippensburg University on Wednesday (Jan. 16) at 7:30 p.m.
