HAMPTON, Va. – The No. 14 Lock Haven University wrestling team rebounded from a tough Day 1 at the 2019 Virginia Duals and the Bald Eagles bounced back in a big way by winning seven of 10 bouts this morning (Sat., Jan. 12) on the way to a 26-15 victory over Kent State.

The Bald Eagles posted three major decisions and a tech fall, and moved to 3-2 overall with today's win over Kent State. Yesterday (Fri., Jan 11), LHU went 0-2 with losses to Virginia and Oklahoma on Day 1 of the two-day Virginia Dual Tournament.

It was a different story today for LHU as the Bald Eagles won the first six bouts of the dual, setting the tone for the win. For the second straight day, LHU also inserted some new faces into the lineup and saw some shift in weight classes. The formula worked and powered Lock Haven by Kent State (6-10).

Luke Werner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), Brandon Loperfido (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield), DJ Fehlman (Warren, Pa./Warren), Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs), Alex Klucker (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro), No. 4 Chance Marsteller (New Park, Pa./Kennard-Dale) and Parker McClellan (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) all won for the Bald Eagles.

Werner (125), Fehlman (141) and Marsteller (165) all posted majors, and Klucker won by tech fall at 157 as the bonus-point victories proved valuable for LHU today. Loperfido took advantage of his call into the lineup and won at 133, and Shoop continued this run of success with another win, but today it came up a weight class at 149.

Werner's 12-1 major over Jake Ferri set the tone as Lock Haven jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead. The Bald Eagles rattled off five more wins and led 23-0 before Kent State got on the board and posted back-to-back wins at 174 and 184.

Marsteller's win today helped him close the weekend at a perfect 3-0.

Kent State posted a narrow win at 174, a pin at 184 and the Flashes added a forfeit victory at 285.

The Bald Eagles will return to action on Sunday, January 20 when they travel to Cleveland State for an Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) dual.
