LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (7-10, 5-8 PSAC) fell to Kutztown University (12-9, 6-7 PSAC), 81-76, Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Divisional action.
Lock Haven and Kutztown battled out a very even first half with the Golden Bears edging in front with a 46-41 lead at the break. Kutztown came out firing in the second half and built up an 18-point lead for large periods in the second half, but a late charge led by
Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) saw the Bald Eagles come to within three in the final seconds of the game. The Kutztown defense, however, stood strong and was able to hang on for the win.
Cerruti led all scorers in the game with his career-high 31 on and efficient 13-21 from the field including 2-4 from beyond the arc. Cerruti grabbed four rebounds and two steals and also blocked a shot in a stellar outing.
Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) scored 16 points to lead the Haven trio in double figures. McPherson also grabbed 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) chipped in with 15 points and three steals.
LHU will be back in action Saturday, February 2 at 3 p.m. when they host Salem University..
