SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The LHU women's basketball team (3-3, 1-1 PSAC) topped Slippery Rock University (2-4, 0-2 PSAC) 76-60 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Sunday afternoon at Morrow Field House in Slippery Rock.
Lock Haven came out hard in the first quarter, taking a 26-12 lead into the second after scoring ten consecutive points to end the first. A more balanced second quarter saw SRU edge out the Bald Eagles in scoring by just two-points, not nearly enough to gain on the impressive lead LHU built in the first as they took a 40-28 lead in to the half.
After a pair of field goals by The Rock led off the third quarter, the Bald Eagles once again hit hard, going on another ten-point streak while holding SRU scoreless for nearly six minutes on route to a 53-38 advantage going in to the fourth. Both teams laid on the points in the final quarter of play, but Lock Haven would hold on to the early lead they built, taking home the 76-60 win.
Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCasky) helped propel the Bald Eagles offense, leading the team in points (19) for the second consecutive game and for the third time this season. Parker also shot 8-10 on free throws while adding four rebounds, a block and a steal.
Lock Haven was aided by two more double-digit scorers in Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) and Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn), who recorded 16 and 13 points respectively. Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport (Monroe CC)) added another ten rebounds to increase her PSAC-leading season total to 59. Robinson now sits in fourth (tie) in the nation.
Freshman Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line while tallying seven points, two rebounds, and a steal.
