Football returns home, set to host West Chester

LHU Football Week 10 Game Notes: The Bald Eagles are set to host West Chester on Saturday in the first of two straight home games.

  • At 189.6 yards per game – through Week 9 action - the Bald Eagles feature the No. 1 ranked rushing offense in the PSAC.
  • Despite missing last week's game, running back Chantz Swartz leads the PSAC Eastern Division in rushing yards with 100.1 per game. Overall he's ranked second in the PSAC.
  • Rookie defensive back Levi Engle is tied for the PSAC lead in interceptions with four.

It's Week 10 of the NCAA Division II football season and the Lock Haven University football team is returning home to host perennial conference power West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

Week 10 (vs. West Chester) news, notes & storylines:
  • Lock Haven is 1-8 overall and 0-6 in PSAC East action. The Bald Eagles lone win of the season came at home in Week 1. Saturday's game vs. West Chester marks the first of two straight home games for Lock Haven to close the 2019 regular season.
  • West Chester is 7-2 overall, but the Golden Rams have lost two of their last three games. Last week, WCU fell to nationally-ranked Kutztown, 30-17. Despite receiving votes in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) national poll, West Chester dropped out of the top-25.
  • Last week, Dante Graham, the Bald Eagles No. 2 running back had a historic outing. He ran for 205 yards and two TDs on 33 carries. For Graham, the 205 yards on the ground marked the 10th most ever in a single game. It marked LHU's first 200-plus yard rushing game since November 5, 2016 when John Ford ran for 206 yards in a win at East Stroudsburg. The 205 rushing yards were the fourth-highest individual output this season by any player in the PSAC.
  • LHU junior tight end Jalen Jackson (8GP/6GS, sat out Week 3), a 2018 All-American and a 2019 Preseason All-American, leads LHU with 68.6 receiving yards per game. He's ranked 13th in receiving yards per game in the PSAC. Overall, he remains the No. 1 tight end.
  • Defensive back Kahari Whitfield and linebacker Alex Welch lead LHU with 69 and 62 tackles, respectively.
  • Whitfield's 69 tackles rank No. 9 in the PSAC.
  • Freshman standout defensive back Levi Engle has four of Lock Haven's nine interceptions on the season.
  • With four INTs, Engle is one of seven players in the PSAC, who have a league-leading four interceptions. Overall, Engle has defended 11 passes (4 INTs, 7 breakups), which ranks him tied for No. 2 in the PSAC.
  • LHU head coach Dave Taynor is in his fifth season at LHU and 12th overall as a collegiate head coach. At LHU he's 11-42 (9-24 PSAC East). Overall he's 48-82 for his career.
 
Up next:
The Bald Eagles will close out the 2019 regular season next Saturday, November 16 at home with a 1 p.m. PSAC Crossover Game vs. Gannon. LHU will honor its seniors before the game. Lock Haven beat Gannon last year in Erie in a thriller, 50-48.
