Women’s Soccer caps season with Senior Night win

The LHU women’s soccer team celebrated Senior Night tonight in a big way, closing the season with a win.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (4-11-2, 4-11-1 PSAC East) closed the season in thrilling fashion as the Bald Eagles celebrated Senior Night 2019 tonight with a 2-1 win over visiting Mansfield University (1-17, 1-15 PSAC East).
 
Both Lock Haven goals came in the first half.
 
Prior to the start of tonight's match, the Bald Eagles honored their graduating senior class in Kimberly Cox (Doorn, Netherlands/Het Revius Lyceum), Gabbriele Edinger (Lancaster, Pa./Reading), Marah Foltz (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield), Erika Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) and Haleigh Swam (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill).
 
Tonight, LHU got goals from Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa.Juniata), Kelsey Brown (Benton, Pa./Benton).
 
Swartz put LHU up 1-0 in the 35th minute on a goal where Swam – a senior – was credited with an assist.
 
It was 2-0 Lock Haven after Brown knocked home a rebound. Taylor Moritz (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) was credited with an assist on the marker after taking the initial shot into the box.
LHU led 2-0 at halftime, but Mansfield got a goal back early in the second half.
 
Leading 2-1, LHU controlled the final stages of the match and picked up home win.
 
Karly Trillhaase (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional) made three saves as the Haven backline stood strong.
 
The Bald Eagles led in shots by a wide 24-10 margin. Marley Sprenkel (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) fired off six shots and four on goal while Swam had five with three on target
 
Tonight's match capped the season for the Bald Eagles, their first under the direction of new coach Maggie Kuhn.
