Cerruti’s 3 at the buzzer sends LHU home winners

Matt Cerruti hit a buzzer beating three to send the Lock Haven men’s basketball team home winners as they knocked off Mansfield, 63-60 Wednesday night at Mansfield.

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Matt Cerruti (Huntington Valley, Archbishop Wood) hit a three at the buzzer to send the Lock Haven University men's basketball team (9-10, 6-8 PSAC East) to an exciting win on the road at Mansfield University (4-18, 1-14 PSAC) 63-60 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Divisional action Wednesday night.

Trailing 60-58 with 11 seconds remaining, Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) grabbed a defensive rebound and swung the ball up to Cerruti. Cerruti then found Jihad Barnes (Philadelphia, Philadelphia Electric Charter) under the basket for a layup plus the foul that tied the game at 60-60.

Although Barnes missed the free throw, Kelly was able to get the offensive rebound and set up Cerruti for the game-winning heroics as he knocked down the three and gave LHU the win that moved them to 6-8 in the PSAC.

Cerruti finished with his second consecutive double-double, totaling 16 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals.

Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) added 14 points and six rebounds while also notching three blocks.

Kelly finished with a double-double as well, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to round out the three Bald Eagles that reached double figures.

Barnes and Noah Warren (Chester, Pa/Neuman-Goretti) both finished with nine points.

The Bald Eagles will host Bloomsbuirg on Saturday, February 9 at 3 p.m. in PSAC Eastern divisional action.
