LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (2-4) will return to action next week after a three week layoff at the PFX Tournament in Clermont, Florida. The Bald Eagles will play 10 games over a six day period (March 11-16) as the season kicks into full swing.
 
Snowbird Freezeout opens season:
 
LHU opened the season back on February 15 at the Snowbird Freezeout. The team played six games from February 15-17 as they battled against strong competition, including No. 4 and returning national runner-up Saint Anselm. The Bald Eagles finished the Snowbird Freezeout 2-4, but received strong performances from numerous players all weekend long.
 
Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) had a tremendous tournament at the Snowbird Freezeout, going 2-0 over the weekend in her three starts while posting an ERA of 2.19. She struck out 13 batters and allowed only nine hits over 16 innings pitched and held her opponents to a .158 batting average. She wrapped up her weekend by being named the PSAC Central Pitcher of the Week.
 
Bekah Slattery also had a strong tournament, going 21 innings strong over her four appearances (3 starts). She allowed just six earned runs over those appearances while striking out 22 hitters. Slattery posted an ERA of 2.00 and held opposing batters to a .221 average.
 
At the plate, LHU was led by Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) as she batted a team-high .353 for the tournament with four RBI's, which also led the team. Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) was also strong at the plate for LHU, batting .313 with a home run and a .450 on-base percentage. Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) hit .294 for the tournament with three RBI's.
