Lock Haven splits with UPJ

The LHU Softball team went 1-1 on the day as the team split a doubleheader with PSAC Central foe Pitt-Johnstown.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (20-14, 6-4 PSACC) split the day with The University of Pitt-Johnstown (16-14, 6-6 PSACC) Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division action. The Bald Eagles took game one, 3-0 before the Mountain Cats took game two, 3-1.
 
Game 1: W, 3-0
 
LHU took game one over UPJ, 3-0.
 
Lock Haven got the scoring starting early when Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) sent a solo home run over the center field fence in the top of the first inning to put The Bald Eagles up 1-0.
 
In the sixth inning, with LHU still leading 1-0, Rachel Gricoski (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) extended Lock Haven's lead to 3-0 when she blasted a two-run homer to left-center to plate Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) as the Bald Eagles took game one, 3-0.
 
Gricoski and Carpenter led LHU offensively, both tallying home runs. Gricoski finished with two RBI's while Carpenter added one.
 
Ceely and Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) both added hits for Lock Haven.
 
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) pitched another great game in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout while striking out nine.
 
Game 2: L, 3-1
 
The Mountain Cats took game two, 3-1 to split the day with LHU.
 
Trailing 3-0 in the seventh inning, Carpenter tried to rally Lock Haven with a solo home run to left-center, but it wasn't quite enough as LHU fell to UPJ, 3-1.
 
Carpenter and Amanda Criss (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) led the LHU offense. Carpenter finished with her solo home run and an RBI while Criss added a double.
 
Mathes, Gricoski and Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) all added hits for Lock Haven.
 
Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) pitched well for The Bald Eagles, throwing a complete-game, six hitter while allowing three runs and struck out three.

The team with be right back at it tomorrow (April 14) when LHU hosts Mansfield. Those games are scheduled to begin at 1:00/3:00 PM at Lawrence Field.
