LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (21-15, 7-5 PSACC) was able to take game one of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central division doubleheader with Mansfield University (12-12, 6-6 PSACC), 5-1 before falling in game two to the Mounties, 9-1 in six innings. The split pushes LHU to 21-15 on the season and 7-5 in PSAC Central play.
Game One: W, 5-1
The Bald Eagles knocked off Mansfield, 5-1 in game one.
LHU got the scoring started in the third inning when
Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) ripped an RBI single down the left field line to give LHU the 1-0 lead.
In the fourth,
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) helped her own cause when she sent a two-run double off the center field wall that plated two more runs and gave Lock Haven the 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, LHU extended the lead to 5-0 when
Chloe Kennedy (Elkton, Md./Caraval Academy) drilled a two-run homer to left field.
Mansfield added a run late, but it wasn't enough as LHU defeated the Mounties, 5-1.
The offense was led by
Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) and
Amanda Criss (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air). Caputo finished 2-4 with a run scored while Criss went 2-3 with a run scored.
Kennedy and Slattery each finished with two RBI's while Carpenter finished with one of her own.
Slattery was great in the circle, throwing a complete-game two-hitter. She struck out 14 and allowed just one earned run.
Game Two: L, 9-1 (6 innings)
The Bald Eagles fell in game two, 9-1 to split the day with Mansfield.
Kennedy led the offense in this one, finishing with her second home run of the day when she sent a deep shot over the center field fence in the first inning.
Caputo, Carpenter, Criss and
Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) all added hits in the game.
