LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (18-16-1, 11-9 PSACE) split the day with Shippensburg University (15-23, 7-13 PSAC) Saturday afternoon in Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Divisional action. The Raiders were able to take game one in walk-off fashion, 2-1 before LHU took game two, 4-1.
Lock Haven was able to take three of the four games between the teams in the four-game weekend series.
Game 1: L, 2-1
Lock Haven fell 2-1 in a pitcher's dual in the first game.
Ross Mintzer (Glenside, Pa./Rowan Gloucester CC) got the start for LHU and pitched 6 innings. Mintzer allowed just six hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters.
Jimmy Webb (Montoursville, Pa/Loyalsock) provided the lone Bald Eagle run of the game on an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Colby Hiddemen (Honey Brook, Pa./Twin Valley) got the other Bald Eagle hit in game one.
Game 2: W, 4-1
LHU used a three-run third inning thanks to RBI walks from
Joe Zgleszewski (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and
Reagan Lawlor (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) to go with an RBI single from
Isaac Porter (Beech Creek, Pa./St. Bonaventure) to jump ahead, 3-0.
Demetrius Haskins (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) took advantage of a Shippensburg wild pitch in the seventh inning to score and extend Lock Haven's lead to 4-0.
Ship added a run in the bottom of the seventh, but LHU held on and got the 4-1 victory to split the day with The Raiders.
Porter led LHU offensively, going 3-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Haskins also had a solid game at the plate, finishing 2-3 with two runs scored.
Webb and
Liam McArthur (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall) each added singles and a run scored.
Avery Eddy (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) had a solid outing on the hill for Lock Haven, throwing 5.1 shutout innings while allowing four hits and striking out three
