QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) continued to dominate the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Conference Tournament as she powered The Lock Haven University softball team (30-16-1) past Kutztown University (36-19), 2-1 in eight innings Friday morning.
Her dominance in the circle and at the plate were on full display once again in this one as her late game heroics and dominance in the circle powered LHU to the win.
She finished the game with 13 K's over the eight innings in the circle while also adding a home run in the eighth inning that gave Lock Haven the 2-1 advantage.
The 13 K's pushed Slattery to 816 in her career, moving her to 6th all-time in PSAC history.
The win puts The Bald Eagles in the PSAC Championship game for the first time since 2009, when LHU defeated Bloomsburg and captured the PSAC Title before making a run and winning the 2009 National Championship.
After a scoreless first three innings that allowed a combined two hits between the two pitchers,
Rachel Gricoski (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) drilled a double to center field that scored
Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) and gave LHU the 1-0 lead.
Kutztown responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring a run on an RBI double with two outs to tie the game at 1-1.
With the game still tied at 1-1 in the sixth inning and Kutztown threatening,
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) made the play of the game when she leaped into the fence to make a spectacular catch and deny the Golden Bears of a home run and a 2-1 lead.
In the seventh, Slattery struck out the side to as the teams headed to the eighth still tied at 1-1.
It wasn't tied for much longer.
Leading off the eighth, Slattery crushed the first pitch of her at-bat deep over the center field fence to push Lock Haven ahead, 2-1. Her late game heroics continued in the bottom of the inning when she recorded her 13
th strikeout of the day with runners on second and third with two outs to stifle Kutztown's rally and send LHU to the PSAC Title Game with the 2-1 victory.
The home run for Slattery was her second of the year, second of the tournament, and second in as many days as she continues to delivers in all facets for LHU.
Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) finished with two of Lock Haven's five hits in the game while Gricoski and
Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) both added doubles for LHU.

Kutztown awaits the winner of West Chester and Gannon in the consolation finals to be played at 3:00 PM later today. The winner of those games will then advance to tomorrow's championship game against the Bald Eagles at 12:00 PM.
*Of note:
Lock Haven must lose twice in order to be eliminated from the tournament. Therefore, Lock Haven's opponent must defeat them twice in order for the opponent to be crowned the champion.
