BOONE, N.C. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team (5-3) got wins from No. 15 Luke Werner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), No. 19 Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) and Parker McClellan (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), but host Appalachian State (5-2) won seven of 10 bouts and took home the non-conference win, 29-10.
 
For Shoop (141), the victory marked career win No. 121 and he stands alone in fourth-place all-time for wins at LHU. Shoop is a returning All-American and three-time NCAA qualifier.
 
Werner put LHU up 3-0 after opening the night with a dominating 7-0 victory over Sean Carter at 125 pounds. Shoop put Lock Haven up 7-3 with a hard fought major at 141, downing Bradley Irwin, 14-0.
 
The Mountaineers benefitted from a pin at 149, a tech fall at 157 and won six straight before McClellan grabbed a win at 197 for LHU.
 
McClellan took down Paul Carson, 4-0.
 
Of note, No. 29 DJ Fehlman (Warren, Pa./Warren) was edged out by No. 33 Codi Russell, 5-3 in a thrilling bout featuring a pair of nationally-ranked opponents at 133. It marked Fehlman's first loss since late November.
 
Tonight's match marked the first of three days on the road. Lock Haven will take on Old Dominion tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 17) at ODU at 6:30 p.m. and the Bald Eagles will wrap up their busy and quick three-match road swing with a dual at George Mason on Saturday, January 18 at 12 p.m. The duals at ODU and GMU tomorrow and Saturday are Mid-American Conference (MAC) Eastern Division matches.
