WBB prepares for matchup with No. 11 IUP

The LHU Women’s Basketball team travels to Indiana (Pa.) tomorrow to open 2020 against the No. 11 Crimson Hawks

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (7-3, 4-1 PSAC) looks to extend their five-game win streak tomorrow evening as they face off against the No. 11 Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Crimson Hawks in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover, with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.

RECAP:
  • The Bald Eagles were last in action on Dec. 20 and 21, downing Clarion 68-55 and Pitt-Johnstown 77-62 in back-to-back PSAC matchups.
  • Freshman Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown) notched 12 points against Clarion and 19 against Pitt-Johnstown to increase her team-leading season total to 138 (13.8/game). Lonardi now sits second among all PSAC freshman in scoring and 20th among all PSAC players.
  • Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa. / Red Land) shined against Pitt-Johnstown, recording 21 points to lead the team and went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.
  • Jaynelle Robinson (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport (Monroe CC)) recorded her fourth double-double of the season against Clarion, tallying 10 points and 19 rebounds. Robinson, who has recorded 113 rebounds and averaged 11.3 per game this season, has led the PSAC in both rebounds and rebounds per game for the majority of the season. Robinson currently sits fifth in offensive rebounds per game (4.8) and 12th in rebounds per game (11.3) in all of Division II Women's Basketball.
 
THE SERIES:
  • Last season, Lock Haven fell to the then-ranked No. 20 IUP 53-78 at the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex in Indiana.
  • The Bald Eagles will be looking for their first win over the Crimson Hawks in nearly 10 years, as IUP holds a 10-0 advantage over Lock Haven dating back to the 2011 season.
 
SCOUTING IUP:
  • The No. 11 Crimson Hawks have put together a dominating season, going 10-1 overall and 5-0 in PSAC play. IUP has strung together eight consecutive victories, with their sole loss on the season occurring back in November when they fell 79-86 to Glenville State, who was ranked No. 22 at the time.
  • Justina Mascaro was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week last week after recording 23 and 32 points against Shepherd and Shippensburg respectively. Mascaro's 32 points and 11 rebounds against Shippensburg were both career highs for the junior guard, who averaged 27.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game over the pair of games.
  • Tomorrow's matchup will be IUP's first home game since November 24th, a 65-50 victory over East Stroudsburg. The Crimson Hawks hold a 5-1 record at home this season, and have recorded a 72-8 at home record over the past six years.
 
UP NEXT: The Bald Eagles return to action on Monday, Jan. 6 when they travel to Kutztown to face PSAC East rival Kutztown in a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
